Neil Carberry

Neil is the REC's chief executive, joining us in June 2018. 

He began his career in recruitment, working for a small search firm specialising in financial services. He went on to do a post-graduate degree in HR at the LSE and joined the CBI in 2004. 

Neil was a managing director at the CBI, leading its work on the labour market, skills, energy and infrastructure. He was also integral to delivering a range of change programmes and improving member services. 

Neil is a member of the council of the conciliation service ACAS and of the Low Pay Commission, which makes recommendations about the level of the National Minimum Wage. He is also the chair of a small academy trust. 

Neil's first hand experience of recruitment and membership makes him ideally placed to lead the REC.

Kate Shoesmith

Kate leads our marketing, sales and customer contact teams at the REC and is on the REC’s executive committee. Leading these teams means Kate gets intelligence of what it's like to be in recruitment from the shopfloor, i.e. directly from our members. 

Kate's background is public affairs in employment and skills. She joined the REC in March 2013 having previously been Head of Policy at City & Guilds.

Sophie Wingfield

Sophie is our head of policy & public affairs, and is responsible for the organisation's policy and government relations across all issues - working on integrated campaigns including promoting the value of flexible working and good recruitment. 

rior to working at the REC, Sophie worked in campaigns, strategic communications, and public affairs for 12 years. Most notably from 2012 – 2015 she was a senior advisor to the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Harriet Harman MP QC.

Tom Hadley

Tom Hadley is the Director of Policy and Campaigns at the REC. He and his team lobby key Government and EU officials on a range of employment issues, regularly meeting with MPs and advising on the labour market. His team highlights REC initiatives to promote industry standards, including audit schemes and the Diversity Pledge. They are also responsible for ensuring members uphold the Code of Good Recruitment Practice and are fully compliant with employment legislation.

Before joining the REC, Tom worked for the CBI (Confederation of British Industry), for the London-based recruitment consultancy MBA Training Research & Development, the European Commission and the French multi-national company Vivendi.
